Which of the following educational institutions is served by an academic library rather than a school library?

### Why this is right An academic library serves a higher-education institution, such as a university, and supports its students and staff with learning and research resources. Primary and secondary schools are served by school libraries instead. ### The concept A library is commonly classified by the institution and community it serves. An **academic library** is connected to a university or college and may provide scholarly books, journals, databases, and research support. A **school library** supports pupils and teachers in primary or secondary education, with resources suited to their studies. The institution’s level, rather than the size or name of its library, determines the category. | Institution | Usual library type | Main community served | |---|---|---| | University | Academic library | Students and researchers | | Primary school | School library | Younger pupils and teachers | | Junior secondary school | School library | Lower-secondary pupils and teachers | | Senior secondary school | School library | Upper-secondary pupils and teachers | ### The other options - **B. Primary school**: This is served by a school library for younger pupils and their teachers, not an academic library. - **C. Junior secondary school**: This is a school-level institution, so its library supports lower-secondary study. - **D. Senior secondary school**: This is also a school-level institution, even though its courses may prepare students for university. ### Terms - **Academic library**: A library serving a university or another higher-education institution, with resources for coursework and research. - **School library**: A library serving pupils and staff in a primary or secondary school, with resources that support school learning. ### Remember A university points to an academic library; primary and secondary schools point to school libraries.
