Which type of publication is typically issued on a daily or weekly basis to provide timely reports on current events and general news?

### Why this is right A newspaper is a publication released regularly, often daily or weekly, to report recent events and general news. Its frequent schedule helps it provide information while events are still current. ### The concept A **publication** is material produced and shared with readers, either in print or online. Newspapers focus on timely reporting, such as local events, politics, and public affairs. A magazine is also issued regularly, but it often gives more space to features, commentary, or a particular interest. An academic journal publishes research for specialists, while an encyclopedia organizes reference information about a wide range of subjects. | Type | Main purpose | Typical focus | |---|---|---| | Newspaper | Report recent news | Current events and general news | | Magazine | Provide features and commentary | A topic, audience, or interest | | Academic journal | Share scholarly research | Studies in a specialist field | | Encyclopedia | Provide reference information | Summaries of established knowledge | ### The other options - **B. Magazine**: Magazines may also come out weekly, which makes this choice tempting, but they typically emphasize features or particular subjects rather than timely general-news reporting. - **C. Academic journal**: This publishes research articles, usually for readers in a specific academic or professional field, rather than general reports on current events. - **D. Encyclopedia**: This is a reference work that explains topics for readers to look up. It is not typically issued daily or weekly to report breaking news. ### Terms - **Current events**: Recent happenings that are being reported or discussed. - **Academic journal**: A publication that presents research in a particular field. ### Remember For timely general news, think newspaper; for specialist research, think academic journal.
